Case study
NODE Fest Ident
For anyone who hasn’t heard of it, Node Fest is a yearly motion design festival held in Melbourne, Australia, every November. It’s an amazing celebration of creativity, especially for visual designers and motion graphics artists and I wanted to challenge myself by creating an ident for the competition.
The brief was pretty open: make a 15–30 second video on the theme of layers. I decided to work with Node’s signature red-and-blue palette (with a few extra shades) and bring the logo and “NODE” letters to life through a series of simulations.
I built the piece in Cinema 4D with Redshift, leaning heavily into different types of simulations like cloth, balloon, rigid body, and soft body. It was super fun experimenting with how each one could give the forms a playful but dynamic feel. To tie it all together, I used camera work and smooth transitions so the scenes flowed seamlessly, synced to music and SFX to hit the beats and push the rhythm of the visuals.
It was such a rewarding project to dive into, and I really enjoyed pushing myself to explore different simulations. Excited to see how everyone else approached the brief this year!
I drew directly from the official NODE branding elements. Below are the reference images that informed the visual direction, helping me stay consistent with the event’s signature look and feel.
